To reduce the carbon footprint of plastic products, Subproject 3 focuses on developing and evaluating new materials that offer superior environmental performance. This involves the creation of biobased and recyclable composites that meet stringent quality standards, enabling manufacturers to produce high-performance products with lower CO2 emissions.

Targets

Subproject 3 provide disruptive approaches to reduce the CO2eq footprint of polymers by:

  • Develop and assess novel vitrimer / bio-mass derived epoxy resins in carbon fiber composites, and de-bondable adhesives; develop recovery routes for re-use of composite constituents
  • Re-use of post-consumer/-industrial waste (e.g. food industry), re-processing into bio-based and biodegradable plastics
