Yesterday marked the launch of our flagship project, “Towards a NetZero Plastics Industry,” at the University of St. Gallen, led by the Production Management team at the Institute of Technology Management. The event saw a remarkable turnout of over 50 participants, representing four research partners, 18 implementation partners and four dissemination partners.
This CHF 8 million initiative is our commitment to combating rising CO2 emissions from plastics and steering towards a circular economy for plastics over the next four years. The project comprises six dynamic subprojects:
- Multi-sided Platform: Laying the groundwork for the circular ecosystem.
- Eco-Design Tool: Bridging the gap between design tools and sustainability analysis.
- Best carbon footprint materials: Innovating approaches for reducing polymer-CO2 footprints.
- New process technologies: Optimizing energy-intensive processes and evaluating newly developed recycling materials.
- Re-wiring value chains: Enhancing data transparency, evaluating supply chain scenarios, and reorganizing for a lower carbon footprint.
- Accelerating R-principles: Creating an assessment framework tool to drive R-principle applications and set the stage for commercialization.
The flagship project is a call to action, aiming to foster collaboration and drive systemic change in the plastics industry, steering it towards a sustainable future.
Together, we strive to make the plastics industry greener, reduce waste, and optimize resource utilization.
